Former Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia Links To New Club For Management Job As FIFA Ban Expiration Draws Near

It has been a long hiatus for former Super Eagles manager, Samson Siasia since his ban from football and all relating activities by FIFA following his involvement in match-fixing. As the end of the long-haul is just be around the corner, the former head coach hopes to return to management once the ban elapses by the end of August.

Siasia who lately has been outspoken on his ban, denied engaging in any match-fixing. He was banned in 2019 after being convicted of breaching FIFA Code of Ethics and was also issued a fine of $50,000.

"Nigeria abandoned me when I needed them the most,” said Siasia. “It was just an allegation; they accused me of bribery. But what is bribery? Isn’t it when money changes hands? Was there any evidence? None at all.”

He went further to debunk his alleged involvement and clareified that the incident stemmed from conversations with someone trying to hire him as a coach in Australia. Unbeknownst to him, the individual was a known match-fixer, but FIFA was aware of this.

There are speculations that a football club from Nigeria National League, Mighty Jets are considering hiring Siasia and he is reportedly demanding for N10 million monthly salary.

Siasia was part of the Nigeria football team that won the 1994 AFCON tournament for the country. He also was part of the Super Eagles squad that made the country's first FIFA World Cup appearance in the United States in 1994.
