Erling Haalnd Nets Hat-trick As Manchester City Claim Big Victory Against Ipswich Town
Manchester City are off to another sensational Premier League campaign, after claiming a massive 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town in a comeback that witnessed Erling Haaland scoring a hat-trick.
Ipswich, who are yet to have a Premier League game win had first led from Sammie Szmodic capitalising on City's defensive flop. He latched onto Ben Johnson's assist and blasted the ball past Ederson.
Having to go in front early did not pay off for Ipswich as City made up for the deficit with three goals within five minutes and led the game from the first half.
Haaland scored from a penalty given against Davis. Then, Kevin de Bruyne put City in front with the second goal. Muric lost ball possession to Savio's challenged and the Belgian forward smacked the loose ball down the centre.
In another two minutes, Haaland outpaced on rushing Muric for De Bruyne's cross and slot the ball home. The fourth goal was not until five minutes remaining into the game, when Haaland steered the ball home from the edge of the box.
It was much a one-sided game fairly dominated by City. On two occasions the goal frame was to the rescue of Ipswich with Rico Lewis and de Bruyne's effort bouncing off the woodwork. Ipswich did put some efforts in to keep the margin slim but goal-thirsty side like City wouldn't. For Haaland, it will be his 10th hat-trick for City.
The performances of Kevin De Bruyne and Savinho were equally impressive in what was a hugely enjoyable afternoon for Pep Guardiola's side, save for an early shock.
Both teams met for the first time back in 2002 when City (as a second-tier club) defeated Ipswich, then a top-flight club by 4-1 at Portman Road in the FA Cup.
