Conor Gallagher Completes Exit From Chelsea As Joao Felix Heads To Stanford Bridge
For Conor Gallagher, his exit from Chelsea is already a done deal. The Blues have completed a five-year permenent contract worth £34 million for the midfielder to join Atletico Madrid.
The transfer, however, was enabled by the signing of Joao Felix to seven-year contract from Atletico. The negotiation for Gallagher's move was initially stalled after talks to sign Samu Omorodion failed to yield. To make up for that, Chelsea made a move for the Portuguese forward instead.
"Conor Gallagher has completed a permanent transfer to Atletico Madrid," Chelsea confirmed in a statement. "We wish Conor the very best as he gins a new chapter in his career."
On Joao's part, Atletico have completed seven-year contract to finalise his move to Chelsea and he is understood to have undergone his medical at the club on Tuesday. The deal is worth £46m.
Until now, Gallagher had spent all his career at Chelsea from age six. Having to leave the club will be his first experience outside of the Premier League. For Joao, Chelsea is not a new turf for him. By the way, he spent six-month loan spell at the club in 2023.
