Chelsea Agree Deal With Atletico Madrid For Joao Felix As Conor Gallagher Goes Other Way
Chelsea have secured an agreement with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Joao Felix to Stanford Bridge as Conor Gallagher is due to make his way to the Spaniards on a separate deal with their English counterparts.
Joao was meant to be in the starting lineup for Atletico's season's opening matchday against Villareal, which ended in a draw (2-2) but to the effect of the agreement, the Portuguese forward missed the match and will reportedly be having his medical with Chelsea on Tuesday.
Both clubs agreed to a six-year contract that is worth just a little more than £46million. The payment, however, reportedly will be in two splits; an initial payment of $42 million and separate payments as add-ons worth £4.3 million.
Earlier, Chelsea had agreed to a deal with Atletico for Gallagher and this will allow the midfielder to leave for Spain as Joao joins his previous club. Meanwhile, Gallagher deal comes at lesser fee than that of his counterpart.
Gallagher has been Chelsea's player since his career took off in 2019, even though he had spent much of his time on loan moves. Having to secure a permanent contract with Atletico will be his first experience outside of the Premier League. The English player is now authorised to leave to complete with Atletico, a five-year contract of a fee reportedly worth £36 million.
