Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz Defends Title, Beats Novak Djokovic To Lift Trophy Back-to-Back

Carlos Alcaraz has successfully defended the Wimbledon title for yet another season after he neatly defeated Novak Djokovic in three-set 6-2 6-2 7-6(4) on the Centre Court for back-to-back win of the championship.

For Djokovic, it was a difficult final and such that his techniques were adequately matched by the Spaniard, who was more athletic and agile enough to respond to his drop shots, and in terms of serves, he used those to his advantage.

"Obviously not the result I wanted, especially in the first couple of sets, I wasn't up to par but credit to Carlos. I tried to push him and save three match points to extend the match a little bit longer," said Djokovic.

For the first two sets, Djokovic was not at his best, really lagging on his first serve and his return shots were not precise enough as Alcaraz dictated and won the sets for convinient 2-0 lead. But, the second seeded player pulled back strongly in the third set when he saved a break to keep ahead by 2-1 before Alcaraz resurged again and break at 3-4 to keep the set leveled.

The game should not have gone the distance to a tiebreak but Djokovic saved three championship points at 6-5 40/15 before he was eventually outlasted in the tiebreak. At 21-year-old, Alcaraz is the second player to defend the Wimbledon title back-to-back at his age.

"Honestly it's a dream for me winning this trophy," said Alcaraz. "Djokovic is an unbelievable  fighter, I tried to win with my serve, but I couldn't."

While Alcaraz becomes the sixth player ever to have won both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year, Djokovic missed equalling Roger Federer's record set for most title wins at the championship with eight trophies.
