Paris Olympics 2024: VAR Drama As Argentina Lose To Morocco
As the men’s football tournament of the Paris Summer Olympics Games commenced on Wednesday, the game between Argentina and Morocco had to be restarted after almost two hours following VAR drama.
Argentina were in the deficit when Cristian Medina's goal drama. The game had apparently ended 2-2 in Saint-Etienne when Cristian Medina thought he had rescued a draw for Argentina in the 16th minute of added time. Following the shocking comeback was a bizarre fans pitch invasion.
After a tediously long delay, Medina’s goal was ruled out by VAR for offside which lasted for three minutes after the restart before the referee blew the final whistle that lead Morocco to a 2-1 victory.
Meanwhile, Morocco didn't get ahead until the brink of halftime when Soufiane Rahimi scored the opener, and upon their return from break, he scored the second goal from a penalty. About an hour into the game, Giuliani Simone scored one for Argentina. Hence, the game was in the control of the Argentines for much of the time.
