Paris 2024: Thomas Pidcock Defends Title As Laura Colett, Daley Win Medals For Team GB


Thomas Pidcock defended his mountain bike title in Paris 2024 and won the gold medal for Great Britain's second of Day 3 after Laura Collet and Tom McEwen had delivered the country's first gold medal from horse showjumping final. 

The two-time Olympic champion was cycling to defend his medal from Tokyo 2020 and took victory in a time of 1:26:22. Meanwhile, France's Victor Koretzky  who won the silver was narrowly pipped by Pidcock in the latter stages of the cycling after they had battled each other through to the top of the mountain. South Africa's Alan Hatherly won the bronze for his first Olympic medal.

Earlier, in a separate event, Collet and McEwen both defending the country's title in horse showjumping with 91.30 penalty points for a commanding lead over other contenders, France and Japan in silver and bronze medal position respectively. 

After that successful outing at the Chateau de Versailles, Collet went on to win yet another medal in individual eventing and this time a bronze medal. She was in a provisional silver before Germany's Michael Jong delivered a stunting performance to claim the victory for a gold medal. 

Since Michael had taken the leap for the gold, McEwen who was trailing Collet for a medal dropped to fourth and Australian Christopher Burton dropped to second for a silver medal. 

In a later event, Tom Daley and Noah Williams also made podium position in men's 10-meter synchronized diving for a silver medal on 463.44 points. 

The title will be Daley's fifth Olympic medal from five Olympic Games appearances. In Tokyo, Daley won the gold meal. In Paris, Chinese peer Lian Junjie and Hao Yang won the gold and Canadian duo Ryan Wien and Nathan Zsombor claimed the bronze.
