Paris 2024: Medal Galore As Australia Tops On Open Day And Team GB Wins Medal In Women's Canoe On Day 2

 


The Paris Olympics Games has since begun and countries are now on the scramble for medals which have been coming in. Australia topped open day medals standing with three gold medals and those came in after China had led with two gold medals earlier in the day. 

Grace Brown set the Aussies off defiling the damp weather condition that marred the open day outdoor events and was the quickest in women's individual cycling. Brown is also the reigning Commonweath Games gold medallist in the same event and the medal is her first Olympic gold in cycling. 

As the events continued, Australia added the second gold from Ariarne Titmus winning gold medal in women's 400-meter freestyle final. In the men's category of the same event, Germany claimed their first gold medal with Lukas Marten edging out Australia's Elijah Winnington (silver) and South Korea's Kim Woo-min (bronze). 

Australia then tripled their tally by taking victory in women's 4x100-meter relay where the team of Shayna Jack, Mollie O'Callaghan, Emma McKeon, and Meg Harris won the gold medal. The performance of the Aussies was such that they set new olympic record for 4x100-meter freeestyle in 3:28.92. 

The host country, France won their first gold medal in rugby sevens where they defeated Fiji by 14-17 in the final. The United States had won first medal from women's individual cycling by Chloe Dygert's bronze, and later in the day, they won their first gold medal from men's 4x100-meter freestyle relay. 

China won their first gold medal from rifle shooting by Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao and followed up with the second in women's sychronized 3-meter springboard diving by Chang Yani and Chen Yiwen.

Team GB had their best Olympic Games opening day performance in 44 years by winning two medals, first of which was from women's sychronized 3-meter springboard diving by Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen and the second was silver medal from women's individual cycling by Anna Henderson. 

Currently, Australia have extended their tally to fourth gold medal on Day-2 of the Games from Jess Fox winning the women's canoe slalom k-1 final in 96.08. Poland's Klaudia Zwolinska claimed the silver medal in 97.53 followed by Great Britain's Kimberley Woods in 98.94 for a bronze medal. In the second place in medals standing is South Korea with three gold medal and in the third is China with three gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
