Paris 2024: China Lost Artistic Gymnastics Gold To Japan


Known for their dominance in gymnastics, the Chinese team was the favourites for Artistic Gymnastics victory but they did not living up to that expectation following repeated errors that gave away the gold medal to Japan while they won the silver. 

Defending the title which they won from Tokyo went desperately wrong in the last stages with three performances left to go. The Chinese team suffered unpleasant errors that robbed them of the three-point lead.

First, Xiao Ruoteng scored 13.433, the lowest of the day for a landing error. Su Weide was next falling off the bar having lost his grip. With those two moments, the team that was leading dropped behind Japan for silver. 

Daiki Hashimoto, the star at the event from Tokyo 2020 where he won gold in all the categories for men's gymnastics for all-round best performance. The 22-year-old could not rightly get his balance on landing. 

Having made so much errors, Japan men's team overtook the Chinese men to take the gold. In the third place for bronze was the United States and Great Britain missed the podium for the fourth place.
