Paris 2024: Argentina Claim Big Win Over Iraq In Second Group Game
Argentina have their first game victory at the Paris Olympics U23 tournamentat, defeated Iraq by 3-1 and revamped their team's hope of making it past the group stage.
It was an exciting match filled with action and goals. For Argentina, who lost their first group game to Morocco, winning is crucial and they desperately needed a victory to stay in the tournament.
Eventually, they broke the deadlock near halftime stoppage time in which Julian Alvarez was involved in the lead up to the opening goal. Iraq quickly leveled the game from Hussein's header following a well-intended cross from the left.
Argentina, eventually, retook the lead after the break, adding in two more goals. Gondou nodded home an aerial ball from close range and Fernandez wrapped it up scoring the winner from 30-yard. Having won the match, Argentina would need to win the last group game to progress to the quarterfinals.
