Lewis Hamilton Wins As Max Verstappen Trailed At British Grand Prix

It's been a long time coming for Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton finally won the British Grand Prix for his first race victory this season, and for Red Bull's Max Verstappen, he finished in second behind the former F1 champion for the time since 2021 in Saudi Arabia.

Mercedes have been impressive lately. It is fair to recall that Hamilton had just made his first podium position in third this season at Spanish Grand Prix before his teammate, George Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix last week, They have now put the lid on it with the British Grand Prix victory.

It was a mix of weather conditions at the British Grand Prix - from dry to damp and then to dry again. These conditions impacted on some drivers like Sergio Perez who ran into the gravels and George Russell who was retired. However, Mercedes made most of pit stop plan to beat their rival, McLaren Lando Norris who was in provisional pole, Hamilton came out of the pit ahead of him and led on from Lap 39 to the chequered flag for his ninth victory at Silverstone.

Pole-sitter, Russell got off to a good start and led on until Lap 18 when Hamilton gained DRS and sped past him to be in pole. At this time, the weather condition was damp and the track was slippery while drivers were on dry tires.

Another interesting moment on the track was Lando improving from P4 to overtake Verstappen and later on moved past Russell and then Hamilton to be ahead. The McLaren driver was set for the victory but as the weather become dry, and their pitting plan for hard tyres went wrong, bad enough for Norris to drop behind Hamilton.

Verstappen gave the race a good fight and shrugged off Norris on Lap 48 when he gained DRS and moved on the outside and raced past the Briton. He could not catch up with Hamilton racing towards the last lap and finished in second.

McLaren's Oscar Piastri also gave the race a showdown and finished in fourth ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz in fifth. Verstappen remained in the lead in driver's standings with 84 points followed by Norris in second.
