House of Bàshorún Gáà, Oncoming Epic Film Making Waves

Once again, fans of epic films can have yet another taste of Bàshorún Gáà, the 1700s infamous dictator of the Oyo Mesi whose influence over the throne was renowned for his ruthlessness, leading to the demise and succession of a number of Alaafin of Oyo.

Unlike his predecessors, despite Bàshorún Gáà being notoriously unkind in his government - his position is an equivalent of a present day Prime Minister - and approach towards the ascension and dethrone of an Alaafin, he left an unequalled legacy behind. He succeeded six Alaafins before he politics became unwelcome by the seventh king, who later overpowered him and  consequently led to his demise.

House of Bàshorún Gáà is an epic film set in the 18th century and directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters. Starring in the lead role is Femi Branch and also in the cast is Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Mike Afolarin and many others.

Why Gáà? Presently, there is a growing taste for epic-based films, fictional or non-fictional. Films like King of Thieves by Femi Adebayo, Anikulapo by Kunle Afolayan, A Tribe of Judah by Funke Akindele and recently released biopic on Funmilayo Kuti, grabbed huge attentions of viewers either at the cinemas or on streaming platforms specifically Netflix. For a film like Bashorun Gáà, the character is such that dazzles its viewers being an historical figure of remarkable reputation for cruelty.

Somewhat of a spinoff from the 2004's Bashorun Gáà, the House Bashorun of Gaa is a biopic of the infamous historic figure from the clan of Oyo Mésí kingmakers and is set to be available to stream in the later part of this month.
