England Manager, Gareth Southgate Steps Down From Role

England manager, Gareth Southgate has stepped down from his job after leading the Three Lions to the UEFA Euro 2024 final on Sunday.

Days after leading the team to the Euros final, the 56-year-old announced in a statement that he is stepping down from the role and it is "time for a new chapter" for him.

"It's time for change, and for a new chapter. Sunday's final in Berlin against Spain was my final game as England manager," said Southgate.

Southgate took up the job in 2016, and despite leaving the role without winning any trophy, there are some remarkable achievements during his reign. He led the team to reach the Fifa World Cup semifinal in 28 years in 2018. Also, at the just concluded Euros in Germany, though they lost to Spain in the final, it was the team's second successive appearance in the European competition final.

There has not been replacement for him yet. However, there are speculations that Eddie Howe, Mauricio Pocchettino, and Graham Potter are amongst leading candidates for the role.
