Andy Murray To Retire From Tennis After Participating In Paris Olympics

 


Former tennis world no. 1, Andy Murray has announced that he will be retiring from the sport after participating at the Paris Olympics which will be his fifth Games appearances. 

Ahead of the Games which is scheduled to commence this weekend, the two-time Olympic gold medalist made this known in a statement released via X formerly known as Twitter, that it will be the "last ever tennis tournament" of his career. 

"Competing for Team GB have been by far the most memorable week of my career and I'm extremely proud to get [to] do it one final time," he wrote on X.

Murray is set to participate in the men's tennis singles and as well as in men's double for the Great Britain. He won his first Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics and his second gold medal was in Rio 2016. He is the only British tennis player with two Olympic gold medals. 

At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Team GB finished in the top five of countries with most medals winning 64 medals in total. They won 22 gold,  20 silver, and 22 bronze medal to be fourth in the medals standings.
