Spanish Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Rejoins Podium Position As Max Verstappen Wins

 


Lewis Hamilton for the first time since the start of the season finished in third position for podium position behind Lando Norris and Max Verstappen , who finished in second and first respectively in Barcelona on Sunday. 

It was Verstappen 61th race win of his career, taking place in Barcelona where he started his racing for Red Bull and he has remained the champion in Barcelona for three consecutive seasons. More so, the race victory extended the Dutch driver's total for the season to seventh. 

Meanwhile, Mercedes drivers made good impression on the race. Weather-wise, it was a favorable condition and it was intense challenge between the pole-setter, Norris and Verstappen from the get go. While the two frontrunners were on each other's neck trying to get ahead, George Russell improved from P4 and sped by to lead the race until lap 3. 

Russell's lead was shortlived as Verstappen gained DRS and off he went. to pole Hence, the Red Bull driver led the race to the chequered flag. In the course of the race, Russell showed great resilience and tried to maintained his position behind the three-time F1 champion but Norris gave him a good fight for the place. Since the McLaren driver was on new tires, his car gained better traction than Russell's and off he went to P2. 

"I got a bad start, as simple as that," Norris recalled afterwards. "The car was incredible today, we were for sure the quickest, Ijust lose it in the beginning."

Hamilton was trailing his teammate before gaining DRS and overtook to move up to third for his first podium finish this season as Russell settled in for fourth place. Mercedes later wrote on a photo update in a tweet on X, "BACK ON THE PODIUM. Lewis Brings it home in P3 at the Spanish GP."

The Ferrari duo, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished fifth and sixth respectively but the pair had their moment of struggling to get ahead of each other on the opening lap. They almost collided but it was understood that there would not be further investigation on the incident.
