Remo Freuler produced the openig goal smacking home fromnclose range Ruben Vargas' through pass from the edge of the box, and Vargas doubled the lead minutes into the second half, latch onto Aebischer's pass from the left flank and curled a stunning right-foot shot into the top corner of the goal.

Having progressed to the quarterfinals, they are to meet the winner between England or Slovakia. Nevertheless, Fregas' goal was his second goal in this Championship and Freuler's was his eighth international goal for the country.

Overview

In every way, the Swiss were the better side from the match, from the start to the final whistle, they stayed committed in every way. Though there were a couple of expensive mistakes, like Schar's header pass that struck the woodwork and the moment Scamecca's attempt struck the woodwork, besides those Yann Sommer was barely troubled by the Italians.

The build up leading to both goals were delightful done, and besides keeping their defence compacted, they had enough presence in the Italians' box leading to the goals. Moreover, the near miss that could have extending the margin was Fabian Rieder's free-kick that was saved into the woodwork by Donnarumma.
