Carlos Alcaraz Wins Maiden French Open Title

 


Carlos Alcaraz has seen through the French Open and won the championship for his maiden title in Roland-Garros and his first Grand Slam title on clay-court after he defeated German veteran, Alexander Zverev in the final.

The match was tough and Zverev gave his best to have a grip on the match with a two set to one lead before Alcaraz got fired up and take the game to the distance to win by 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2. Nonetheless, it was a historic moment for the Spaniard. who became the youngest player to lift major trophy on all three surfaces - grass (Wimbledon), hard (US Open), and clay-court (French Open). 

Until now, the French Open was dominated by Rafael Nadal with fourteen titles but left the tournament in the early stages, losing to Zverev in the first round. There were rumors over Nadal retiring and that he might not return next season but the former champion denied the speculations after the loss. His compatriot, Alcaraz is stepping on in his stead and did show his brilliance in the final against the Zverev. 

"Congratulation to Carlos," said Zverev speaking of his opponent on his victory. "You're already a hall of farmer, you've achieved so much and you're only 21-year-old."
