Premier League: Manchester City Retake EPL Standings Summit, Near Clinching Trophy For Fourth Straight Time

Manchester City have edged closer to what could be their fourth consecutive Premier League title victory as they claimed a crucial away win against Tottenham Hotspur by 2-0 with Erling Haaland scoring both goals.

City have not until the kick off, beating Tottenham on their turf but the game was an important factor to putting the side back on top of the standings over Arsenal. Initially, Pep Guardiola anxious watching the side unable to get ahead until Haaland side-footed home the opener in the second half.

Phil Foden seized the space from the centre of the pitch for a fast break and darted through, from his cross the ball got to Bernard Silva and then to Kevin de Bruyne, whose cross Haalnd tapped home from close range for the opening goal. Jeremy Doku later drew a penalty and the Norwegian forward steered the ball home for the winning goal in the stoppages.

Tottenham, meanwhile, needed to win to secure the place in the top four for UEFA Champions League qualification. Having lost the game, Aston Villa remained in the position for Champions League slot.

Overview

Initially, it didn't seem as City were going to make most of the game and were not able to play the game to their dictate from the first half. Haaland was closely marked and Silva was not allowed much space to connect the ball to the front. They eventually loosened Spurs' backline and it was the Norwegian closest chance since the start of the game which he converted.

An interesting match and Tottenham gave it their best, at least to get a point off the game which eluded them. Neat victory for City and much well-deserved as they regained the top spot of the EPL table.
