Premier League: Liverpool Regain Winning Ways After Six-Goal Thriller Against Tottenham
Harvey Elliott celebrates scoring Liverpool's fourth goal against Tottenham
Liverpool claimed a hard-fought victory against Tottenham in a six-goal thriller at Anfield to win by 4-2 and regained winning ways after two winless Premier League game run in a row.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring with a header from Cody Gakpo's cross for an early lead. Andrew Robertson doubled the lead tapping a rebound shot that Vicario saved into his path.
The margin went wider sooner after the halftime as Gakpo nodded home Harvey Elliott's cross. Elliot later added in the fourth with a sensational curly shot into the top corner of the goal.
Spurs built up pressure upon the subing of Richarlison and the Brazilian side-footed home Johnson's cross. The forward later set up Heung-min Son for the second goal and the Japanese attacker steered the ball home.
With the loss, Tottenham have now gone winless in four consecutive Premier League games. With the earlier defeat of Aston Villa by Chelsea, the forfeited the chance to close in on the gaps with Villa for a place in the top-four.
Overview
Thrilling game from both sides, with Liverpool making most of the first period whilst Spurs barely got a shot on target. Not much of the Spurs attackers like Son and James Maddison were seen at the time, but for the Reds, there were plenty of chances for players like Salah and Harvey to get something out of.
Spurs later switched it up on Liverpool and that was credited to the subs with Richarlison who made Johnson's effort from right flank paid off, and likewise Son, who was more felt in the game from midway of the second period.
Highly technical game and both sides' substitutions made the needed impact especially for Liverppol, as Jurgen Klopp was able to stop a potential comeback from Tottenham by making necessary replacements to balance out the pressure from their opponents.
