Premier League: Erling Haaland Gets Hat-trick As Manchester City Maintain Title Race With Win Against Wolves
Manchester City have kept their Premier League title race in tact, closing the gap with the table leaders, Arsenal after clean 4-1 defeat of Wolverhampton at Etihad Stadium.
Wolves conceded the first three goals in the first period with Erling Haaland scoring from a penalty before doubling the lead nodding home Rodri's cross, and completed the hat-trick in the closing minutes scoring from a penalty he drew.
Haaland added in the fourth goal curling home the lob lob pass received from Phil Foden just after Wolves pulled one back as Hee-Chan Hwang finished out from close range Ederson's cross. Julian Alvarez completed the scoresheet with the fifth goal he steered home after Rodri picked up with a pass.
With a game in hand, City completed over 100th home unbeaten run and are strongly in the title race after extending point to 82nd, narrowly trailing Arsenal by a point.
Overview
Wolves did not seem at though they were going to make anything out of the game from the start, and even when they kind of resurge after going behind, all it took was for them to go flat out was Haaland completing his hat-trick.
Matheus Cunha did put some efforts in to get Wolves on their feet in a fair period of possession but could not get into past City's defense. The build up to Hwang's goal was superb but that could not make any difference.
