Oleksandr Usyk Becomes Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World

Tyson Fury has for the first time been defeated as Ukrainian heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk becomes the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world after he defeated his British rival on split decision, 115-112 113-114 114-113.

Fury got off fine from the start of the fight and seemed as if he was going to maintain the form through until ninth round when Usyk nearly knocked down the Briton. Luckily for Fury, the bell went off and Usyk held off the left hook that would have had him floored.

It happened as Usyk rightly landed a left-hook on Fury's jaw while he swung backward to the rings. As Fury continued to struggle with his balance, resting on the rings and swerving across, Usyk seized that to repeatedly land punches on his face. It was monumental for the Ukrainian to have turned the tide of the fight but Fury regained his balance afterwards to fight on through the remaining rounds.

There has not been an undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing after Lennox Lewis for 24 years until Usyk won his fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, there is a rematch clause in the deal and Fury's team has gone ahead to release the clause.

"Make no mistake, I've won that fight in my own opinion, and I'll be back. We've got a rematch clause," said Fury speaking after he lost to Usyk.

Fury is six-inch taller than Usyk, which to the latter was not an issue to have his punches landing rightly. With the rematch set for October, the Briton has yet an opportunity to claim the titles.
