Europa League: Ademola Lookman Shines As Atalanta Reach Final With Marseille Defeat

 


Atalanta have reached their first ever European competition final, after the defeated of Marseille 3-0 for an aggregate of 4-1 in the Europa League semifinal second-leg tie.

Marseille played 1-1 draw against the Italians from the first-leg and had to come from behind to get the draw. They began to trail half hour into the game from Ademola Lookman's individual effort that was deflected home for the opening goal. 

Matteo Ruggeri doubled the lead, after receiving Lookman's pass he steered the ball into the top corner and Bilal Toure added the third, dashing off with a  loose ball from a poor pass and smashed the ball home down bottom left. 

Marseille needed the victory to further guarantee their place for a European competition next season since they are ninth of the Ligue 1 table. The loss would mean they will miss participating in any of European competition next season. 

Overview

Marseille did not really get to have a hold the game for much of the time, meanwhile had more chances than they scored from. Lookman's opener set off the progression, still the side was better off in terms of the attack and likewise at the back. 

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang could not set the offensive the Ligue 1 would need to at least hold off their opponents in the half. In the other side, Lookman did not just impacted on the game but set off Ruggeri for the second goal. Toure as well on Nigerian forward, quickly bolstered the attack even whilst playing in the closing minutes.
