Rafael Nadal will not be participating in the upcoming Monte-Carlo Masters, a decision he blamed on his health following his statement on Thursday.
The former world No.1 is a multi-titlist of the tournament that sets off the clay-court season. Since the start of the season, the Spaniard hasn't participated at most tours - he missed out on major singles like the Aussie Open and Indian Well.
In his statement via his social media handle, the 11-time champion confirmed that his "body just won't let" him even when he summoned courage and put in a lot of efforts.
"Unfortunately, I have to tell you guys that I'm not going to be playing in Monte Carlo. My body won't simply allow me," he confirmed in the statement.
It's been 11 months since the 22-time Grand Slam winner has been struggling with his health and his plan to return has not worked as planned. Besides having a record of 11-title won at the tournament, he also holds match winning streak record of 44 unbeaten run.
