Premier League: Liverpool's Title Race Suffers Setback For Losing To Everton

Everton secured a crucial victory with a 2-0 defeat of Liverpool in Merseyside derby at Goodison Park as the Reds Premier League title race suffered a disappointing setback.

Liverpool conceded the first goal before half hour into the game as Jarrad Branthwaite tapped home a loose ball following a free-kick and the second goal followed in the second period with Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodding home an aerial ball from a corner.

The loss dealt a dent on the Reds contest for the Premier League title race as they now trail table leaders, Arsenal by three points and stand to drop behind Manchester City should they win against Brighton on Wednesday.

Overview

It was an important game for both sides - Everton needed the maximum points to keep out of the relegation zone and the Reds needed to win to stay in the title race. Liverpool haven't lost a game against Everton in three seasons and losing this game was set off from two important set pieces that caught the Reds defense loose, leaving their opponents the rooms to get the ball into the back of the net.

Everton were spectacular at the front and that can be credited to Calvert-Lewin, who was left unmarked to get a header. The hosts were able to get the better of the game and Calvert-Lewin really gave the game his best.

Everton maintained good defensive approach throughout, and to some extemt, Good goalkeeping from Jordan Pickford helped keep the side through. Amongst his saves from Harvey Elliot and Mohamed Sallah's shot. It was a victory well-earned by Everton.
