Nigeria Super Eagles Get New Head Coach
George Finidi has been appointed as the new head coach of the Nigeria Super Eagles by the country's football governing body, Nigerian Football Federation.
Earlier, the 53-year-old was appointed as the interim manager in place of former manager, Jose Peseiro, who stepped down from the role after the country finished in second for silver medals at the 2023 AFCON Cup in Cote d'ivoire.
Meanwhile, there had been rumours that Finidi's former teammate, Emmanuel Amuneke was coasting to the role as fthe avourite - he was rumoured to have been appointed before it was debunked by the NFF. Amuneke was not alone in the race to the role, former coaching assistant and analyst at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, Domenec Torrent was also bidding for the job.
Finidi, on his part, has some plausible achievements during his active years and amongst that was winning the UEFA Champions League with Ajax and also the AFCON Cup for the country in 1994. He made his Fifa World Cup debut appearance with the Super Eagles the same year at the Fifa World Cup in the USA.
