Europa League: Gianluca Scamacca's Double Leads Atalanta To Victory Against Liverpool In QF First-leg Tie
Atalanta had an impressive outing at Anfield where they defeated Liverpool 3-0 with Gianluca Scamacca scoring twice to lead the side through the Europa League quarter-final first-leg tie.
Scamacca was unhindered as he raced into the box and set the side ahead steering home Zappacosta's cross. He later doubled the goal in the second half neatly guiding Ketelaere's cross into the back of the net.
Mario Pasalic sealed the victory for the winning goal following a defensive error from Szobaszlai and he smacked home a rebound shot from Kelleher's parry.
The lost would be Liverpool's first at Anfield since their last in February, 2023 against Real Madrid, ending their 33 games unbeaten home run.
Overview
Liverpool had been unbeaten through the rounds and the lost to Atalanta was their first in this campaign. The Reds played sound from the get go and Harvey Elliott's curly shot that clipped the goal frame was enough to put the side ahead. The out of the game was much like it was going to go their way.
For defensive flops, the Reds passed the game up. Scamacca was left unmarked to run onto Zapaccosta's cross down the right flank. It could also be said to be out Kelleher's error but the Italian had all the space to himself to talk the shot. The same was Mario's winner. Even though it was a rebound, the loose ball was just available to tough out or into the net.
It could only be a disappointing outing at home for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp's expression said it all. Still, it was not just their day as Mohamed would have pulled one back earlier had he not been caught in offside.
