Premier League: Cole Palmer Scores To Guide Chelsea Through Against Newcastle
Chelsea held on to defeat Newcastle 3-2 at Stanford Bridge for their first Premier League home game win since January.
It took six minutes for Chelsea to take the lead as Nicolas Jackson deflected home Cole Palmer's shot with a back-heel. Isak later restored Newcastle back into the game, smacking a right-footed to beat Petrovic to the back of the net.
Palmer put Chelsea back in the lead after halftime with a long-range shot and Mudryk dribbled his way through the defence to score and made it a third for Chelsea. Murphy later pulled one back for the visitors. He latched onto a through pass to blast home the second goal for Newcastle on the stroke of stoppage time.
The defeat extended Newcastle's losses against Chelsea to 10th in 11 previous meetings. Meanwhile, Palmer got a game to remember as he has now scored in five Premier League games that he started for Chelsea.
Overview
Fairly a good match for Chelsea but they left rooms to Newcastle to charge up twice for potential comebacks in the game that should have gone their way without nerves. Newcastle also had their moments of defensive meltdown that paved the way to Palmer to reclaim lead for Chelsea.
Isak's equaliser was neatly taken and he really got the better of Disasi before sending the ball just well enough past Petrovic. Murphy, likewise, dumbed Cucurella to unleash a shot to beat the goalie.
Chelsea played well enough to get past their opponents nonetheless and having the maximum points restored their hope of moving up the standings.
