Jannik Sinner has edged closer to Miami Open final with the defeat of Tomas Machac in straight sets, 6-4 6-2 to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.
Tomas reached the quarterfinals with the defeat of former world number one, Andy Murray, who has now been ruled out of action for an extended period over an injury. However, with Jannik, getting past the round was unyielding as the Italian outclassed him through the sets to win the match.
The Czech kept abreast of Jannik until 3-3 when the Italain converted his first break to stay ahead to win the opener. Tomas yet started the second set on a good note winning the first game but Jannik soon improved and dominated to win the match. It was the Italain player's 20th match win this season.
"He has an incredible talent I think to play in this sport," Jannik commended his opponent. "I made my first Masters 1000 final here, so I'm really happy to be back in the semis."
With the victory Jannik, who is also a two-time Miami Open finalist, nears contending for his second Masters 1000 title this season, but en route to final, he will face the winner between Daniil Medvedev or Nicolas Jarry in the semi-final.
