Jannik Sinner Beats Grigor Dimitrov To Win Miami Open Final
Jannik Sinner is the Miami Open champion for the first time after the defeat of Grigor Dimitrov who was making his first final appearance at the tournament.
Grigor was outrightly outclassed by Jannik through two sets, 6-2 6-1 and that will as a consequence see him make the ATP top 10 rankings. Likewise the champion, he will now move up the rankings to World number 2 for his career highest.
"I hadn't had so much time to be used to the court," said Jannik. "I'm just proud of how I handed the situation, it was not easy. Yeah, it was a really good two weeks."
From the start of the final, the Italian had shown strong control of the game and won his first break at 2-2 of first set and break again for a set point to win. The second set was somewhat of a ease through for him and added his fourth break at the set before sealing the victory on his service.
Winning the title brings Jannik's Master 1000 title tally to two, however, he had won his career first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this season. In retrospect, he reached the final of the 2023 Miami Open which he lost to Daniil Medvedev, whom he defeated in the semis.
He added speaking after the match, "I have faced very different situations on the court, different opponents. I was full of energy today. I'm very happy to now be No. 2 in the world but it's just a number."
