Champions League: Man City Are Through To Quarterfinal With Copenhagen Defeat

Manchester City have progressed to the Champions League quarterfinals with a 3-1 (Aggr. 6-2) defeat of Copenhagen in the second-leg tie at Etihad Stadium.

It did not take long into the game before goals started coming in. The opening goal was from Manuel Akanji whipping home Julian Avarez's cross, and the Argentine, Alvarez doubled the lead blasting home a right-footed shot after a poor clearance of Rodri's effort landed in his path.

The Danish side found solace with Mohamed Elyounoussi's effort after he spareheaded a counter and then, a one-two ball with his teammate before curling the ball past Ederson into the net. Nevertheless, Erling Haaland extended City's lead once again with the third goal. He he darted across for Rodri's through pass and smacked home the winner amidst two defenders on the stroke of halftime stoppage time.

With the goal-margin, City have earned the needed victory from the agrregate of 6-2 - adding up their 3-1 win from the first-leg tie - to qualify for the quarterfinal.

Quick Overlook

Coming into the game, understandably, Copenhagen knew it was an uphill task to undo the deficit from the first-leg tie. City, likewise, did not leave pockets of chance for a scare from the Danish side, instead seized a set piece for an opening goal stunner from Akanji to take the lead.

Though Copenhagen put up a little resilience and intended to make something out of the game if not getting past the knockout stages. Instead of a comeback, they had their defence a little loosed for Haaland to make something out of Rodri's through ball and finished off sensational effort from inside the area.
