Carlos Alcaraz is the Indian Wells champion for the second season in a row with a straight set 7-6(7-5) 6-1 defeat of Daniil Medvedev at the final on Sunday. As the second seeded player, the Spaniard improved on his game to gain considerably control over the Russian to win the BNP Paribal Open final in Indian Wells.

Though Medvedev started off strongly, making giant strides into the match, he began to wane as Alcaraz rallied in 5-6 of the opener to force a tiebreak to win the set. At this time, the Russian had had his first and only break, and thereafter, the match was different for Alcaraz, who confortably dominated the deciding set.

He also lost to Italian Jannick Sinner in the Australian Open final and missed out on winning his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne

"I enjoy playing these kind of matches with you," Alcaraz commended his opponent after the match. The Spaniard will remain in world number two in ATP rankings after winning the tournament for his fifth Masters 1000 title.

He continued: "It means a lot to me, lifting this trophy, winning this tournament, because I overcome a lot of problems in my head, a lot of problems physically."
