Andy Murray Will Be Out-of-Action For Extended Period Over Injury

Participating in Miami Open might have just come to a halt for Andy Murray besides being eliminated from the men's singles after losing to Tomas Machac in three sets, 5-7 7-5 7-6(5) in the round of 32.

The Scott was meant to continue his Miami spell in men's double but a shocking announcement was later made on his injury after his bout with Machac. The former world number one was revealed to have suffered rupturing CFL ligament and that is expected to have him sidelined for an "extended period" of time. 

"I've spent so much of my tennis career here," said Andy after his defeat to Machac. "I would have liked it to have gone on a little bit longer." 

So far this tournament, the 36-year-old have shown an improved performance on the court for having defeated players like Matteo Berrettini in his first match and Tomas Etcheverry in the round of 62. 

"Yesterday towards the end of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL and a near full thickness rupture of my CFL. I will see an ankle specialist when I return home to determine my next step," he confirmed the injury in a statement via Instagram. 

He continued: "I will be out for an extended period. But I will be back with 1 hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right."

Murray's career began to suffer a huge setback after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2019. He later recovered and hab been fit but picked up an injury agained had just returned to the court in May. It is understood that he reportedly hopes to participate in the Olympic Games in Paris but as it stands, for now, he will be out-of-action for a period.
