Spike Lee And Denzel Washington To Team Up On 1960s Film Remake


Denzel Washinton recent film, Equalizer 2 really showed the class of actor that he is on how he was able to unravel the mystery surrounding a Russian criminal gangs. The film was a success at the box office despite the industrial strike at the time. Now, he is bringing that expertise to the remake of a 1960s film, "High and Low."

Renowned filmmaker, Spike Lee will be teaming up with Washington on the film, which be released theatrically by A 24, however, the production is in partnership with Apple Original Films. Both actors have worked on a couple of projects together, for the count, this will be their fifth. 

Going by the storyline, High and Low was based on a successful businessman, Japanese by the way, who went bankrupt because of his attempt to pay the ransom demanded by some kidnappers. Anyone familiar with Denzel knows such roles go well with his character. That brings Fences to mind, however, he was a struggling father in the film. 

The remake is set to start production in March with Spike Lee working on the set as an executive producer according to Variety. The film, however, originally was based on Ed McBain novel, King's Ransom and the original film language was in Japanese. This time, it will be acted in English-Language. 

In retrospect, the last film, The Tragedy of Macbeth that Washington did with A24 - it was the actor's second film with the studio - was based on a play by William Shakespeare and that got him an Soacr nomination for Best Actor, which he lost to Anthony Hopkins for The Father.
