Premier League: Man. City Retake Table Lead With Everton Defeat

Manchester City are back to the summit of the EPL standings by just a point ahead of nearest rivals after defeating Everton 2-0 at Etihad Stadium.

The opening half went goalless and that resilience from Everton did not last longer than that as City moved ahead from Erling Haaland's opener midway of the second half.

Haaland was left unmarked to smacked a loose ball home from a rowdy situation arising from a set piece. The Norwegian forward doubled the lead from a fast break, curling the ball past on-rushing Jordan Pickford from inside the box.

Kevin de Bruyne nearly made it a third but hit the ball just wide over Pickford after Beto's goal was ruled out for offside position.

For the loss, Everton will remain in the relegation zone by just a point beneath Luton Town, who have the advantage of two yet-to-play games. In the other hand, City sealed the victory for their sixth successive winning run since last season.

Quick Overview

Everton seemed as though they were going to get a point aleast off the game from the first half, keeping City's attackers in check and not leaving much pockets of chances to Haaland. That changed consequently after the interval.

The set piece leading to Haaland was carefully finished off by the striker and Everton defenders left him with space and time to find the loose ball. His second goal was however different and City can not have that goal better.

Well-deserved victory for City and they had to work for it leaving Pep Guardiola a little envious on the sideline.
