Lewis Hamilton To Leave Mercedes, To Switch To Ferrari
Ferrari racing team are set to welcome British F1 star, Lewis Hamilton in 2025 as he prepares to leave Mercedes amidst newly-signed two-year contract with the team worth £100m.
Apparently, this season is going to be Lewis Hamilton's last with Mercedes after three consecutive years of F1 championship winless seasons with the team he had been racing for for the past eleven years. Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff reportedly has been briefed of Hamilton's link to their counterparts ahead of confirmation of a deal.
Hamilton is expected to replace Carlos Sainz whose contract renewal negotiation is understood to have hit a brick wall in December, leading to the team's choice of the seven-time f1 champion. Meanwhile, Hamilton is still in contract with Mercedes but it is also understoond that a clause in the contract allows the 39-year-old to leave at the end of the year anyway.
Since Red Bull have started dominating F1 races and the championship trophies, Hamilton had previously maintained his commitment to Mercedes but that was not to mention that he has been frustrated with his car's performance on the track compared to Red Bull's. Mercedes have attempted to improve on the performance but they remained in disadvantage against Red Bull's and even against new contenders like McLaren.
Having won 6-in-7 of his F1 championship titles with the team, racing for Mercedes has not been unsuccessful. He won his first championshp with McLaren in 2008 before joining Mercedes in 2013 where he won six more. In 2016, Hamilton missed out winning the F1 title to his former teammate, Nico Rosberg in a fierce contest that last through the season. He later went on to win four consecutive titles before losing the winning spree to Red Bull's Max Verstappen in a F1 title championship finale in Abu Dhabi in 2021.
