AFCON 2024: Congo Come From Behind To Beat Guinea, Advanced To Last Four
DRC Congo come from behind to win 3-1 against Guinea Bissau and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2024 AFCON Cup.
Guinea had led from Mohamed Bayo's penalty before the table started to turn and Congo equalised from a set piece as Chancel Mbemba smacked the ball home from a difficult angle.
Yoane Wissa scored from a penalty to put Congo in the lead after the interval and Arthur Masuaku scored the winner from a free-kick with eight minutes remaining.
Though, Guinea are out of the tournament but Bayo had been impressive and brought his goal tally to three with the opener. This is yet the farthest they come at the competition. Congo have now progressed to semi-finals and will face the winner between Mali and Ivory Coast.
Quick Overview
Congo have never come this far at AFCON and they have been able to by carefully improving on their game through the rounds and their comeback to beat Guinea to reach the final four was nothing less than deserving.
Guinea's forward, Bayo could not do much for the side in this game even though he put the side ahead. That was his only spectacular moment and he rightly took the spot-kick. Hence, the Congolese kept a strong defense to check that and did not relent on their attack while they lead the game. Congo went away with a victory that was really convincing and rightly earned.
