Premier League: Darwin Nunez Gets Double As Liverpool Beat Bournemouth To Consolidate Summit Position
Liverpool have solidified position atop the Premier League standings with a 4-0 defeat of Bournemouth with Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez both netting a brace each at Vitality Stadium.
The goals did not start coming in until after halftime when Nunez neatly placed Jota's pass right into the far corner of the post for Liverpool's opening goal, and Jota followed shortly with the second goal, slamming the ball to beat Neto to the far left corner of the goal.
There was no slowing down for Liverpool as they break into the Bournemouth's box, and in a set piece, Jota found a gap through the crowded box and whiped the loose ball into the net from a difficult angle for the third goal. The winner would follow in the stoppages as Nunez tapped Joe Gomez's cross-pitch lob into the left corner of the goal.
Nunez, with the two goals scored, brings his senior career tally to 101th goal as Liverpool for the first time since March recorded three consecutive away victories on clean sheets. They have also moved clear nearest team, Manchester City by five points.
Quick Overview
Bournemouth had a fairly good chances to making the game worth it for them but they were not connected, leaving the Reds to make stunning comeback to getting ahead with clinic finishes that caught Neto offguarded.
With Mo Salah away for AFCON Cup in Ivory Coast, Nunez lived up to the challenge and delivered the touches he often would miss. Gakpo quickly made his appearance felt minutes after replacing Luis Diaz and the Dutch player has often proven to be an effective player in Jurgen Klopp's technical plan to bolster his attack.
Well-deserved victory for Liverpool that Bournemouth can not avoid conceding to the better side, even though they had a couple of chances to pull back at least a goal.
