AFCON 2024: Namibia Take Stunning Opening Game Victory Against Tunisia

 


Namibia claimed an impressive 1-0 victory against a much experienced side, Tunisia in the group stage opener of the 2024 AFCON Cup in Ivory Coast. 

The decider was left late into the game with two minutes remaining before Namibia got a shocking goal from Bethuel Muzeu's cross-pitch lob that rightly landed on Deon Hotto for a glance header from close range that beat Ben Said to the goal. 

Much of the second half, however, was controlled by the Tunisians until late into the game following a set piece that settled the game for Namibia. 

The victory happened to be the side's first AFCON victory and against a side, whose captain, Youssef Msakni is playing for the 8th successive time at the competition. 

Quick Overview 

What an electrifying game that put Namibia players on their National records for their first AFCON victory?  Tunisia had not been able to find their rhythm from the first half, though they had the better side of the game from the start before Namibia later got fired up to control the remainder of the half.

Namibia stood the chance of taking the lead than Tunisia considering had but great saves from Ben Said of Peter Shalilule's effort from inside the 18-yard box helped keep the scoreline even. 

The interval later saw Namibia going on the offensive after Tunisia had had good turns of chances that forced great saves from Lloyd Kazapua to keep the side in the game. Credit to Kapazua for keeping the side through and the build up to winning goal could not be lesser than precise a delightful delivery from Muzeu for a Deon's glance header.
