AFCON 2024: Mali Maintain Group Lead With Draw Against Tunisia

 


Mali secured an important 1-1 draw against Tunisia to remain atop of their standings in the second game of the 2024 AFCON Cup. 

Lassine Sinayo moved the Malian side ahead in the early stages of the game, amidst contest from two defenders, he guided a pleasant finish of the ball past Bechir Ben Said into bottom corner of the post.

The scoreline was leveled 10 minutes later after Yaqoob Abdi's cut-back rightly landed on Hamza Rafia's foot and he slammed the through the legs of Djigui Diarra into the goal. 

Both sides were able to hold on the scoreline through the second half for a draw and that extended Mali's lead of Group E to four points while Tunisia are third with one point. 

Quick Overview 

Quick start from both sides and the goals were splendid. Neither sides left too much chances in their halves and around their boxes for much of the first half.

Sinayoko's goal was hius second of the tournament and was from a cleverly finish of the ball amidst defenders. Likewise, the build up to rafia was well-intended. To some extent, the equalizer came off a loose defence from Mali. 

The scoreline stayed the same through the second half despite Sinayoko having lofy chances to put Mali ahead. However, the game was fair for both side.
