AFCON 2024: DR Congo Share Spoils With Morocco In Second Opening Game

DR Congo come from behind to force a 1-1 draw against Morocco for the hope of qualifying for the knockout stages of the 2024 AFCON Cup.

Morocco moved ahead earlier into the game with an opening goal from Achraf Akimi, rifling a shot home from the front of the goal following Hakim Ziyech's cross.

Congo had first wasted an opportunity to equalise from a spok-kick in the latter stages of the first half before they found a compensation for the loss from Silas, who smacked the ball home from Meschak Elia's cut-back following a counter.

Despite the draw, Morocco are yet leaders of Group F with four points and Congo trailed in third with two points behind Tanzania in second.

Quick Overview

Quite an entertaining game from the Congolese, who made a comeback into the game after trailing behind the Moroccans for much of the game. Leading to Silas' equalizer, the Congolese had repeatedly put the Moroccan defense to work with Aguerd, Arabat and Hakimi rising to the ocassions and kept the Moroccans in the game.

Great efforts from both side with Congolese getting fired up and controlling much of the second half which eventually paid off with the needed goal to stay in the game. Meanwhile, the Moroccans had had a couple of chances to move ahead earlier into the second half before their opponents' resurgence.
