AFCON 2024: Cape Verde Consolidate Group Lead With Mozambique Defeat

Bebe celebrates his goal for Cape Verde against Mozambique

Cape Verde claimed an impressive 3-0 victory against Mozambique in the second game of the group stages of the 2024 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Bebe put the side ahead with a delightful shot from a free-kick that beat Hemani Siluane to the goal and Ryan Mendes doubled the lead shortly after the halftime break.

Cape Verde later sealed the victory with a comfortable lead halfway into the second half from Kevin Pina's superb goal from 30-yard on a counter. Having won the game, the islander country consolidated their position atop Group B with six points.

Quick Overview

An interesting game through and through for Cape Verde, who maintained fair control of the game and made most of their chances to have the victory. Mozambiques were enterprizing in their style of play but were not blunt enough at the front to get the goals they wanted.

Even as Mozambique came out stronger in search of an equaliser, Cape Verde maintained hold at the back and caught their opponents offguard on the counter. It was a well-deserved vuctory for the islanders and a plausible contribution to the game from Cape Verde striker, Bebe.
