AFCON 2024: Angola Progress To Quarter-final After Defeating Namibia
Angola have successfully qualified for the quarterfinals of the 2024 AFCON after defeating Namibia by 3-0 despite both sides playing 10-man for much of the game.
Namibia began to trail after Freddy's through pass would set up Gelson for a tap in from close range for Angola to take the lead.
Gelson yet again doubled the lead, and this time, from Freddy's cross from a free-kick into the six-yard box for him to get his head to and nodded the ball to beat Kazapua to the goal in just five minutes after his first.
Mabululu sealed off the victory for Angoal with a lovely finish of Gelson's pass on a fast break set up by Freddy, with a sensational curly lob down the bottom left of the goal.
As Namibia are now out for losing the match, Angola will be progressing to the Last 8, which happened to be the farthest they gone in AFCON, having a total of nine goal in four games so far in this tournament.
Quick Overview
Namibia had a lofty chance of being ahead of the game from their opponents losing Neblu to a red card offence. Instead, a loose defence saw Gelson left unmarked in a set piece.
Meanwhile, as goalkeeper Neblu's decision to stop Shalulile's lob led to his dismissal, the ball was goal-bound anyways from Gasper's shabby defensive play. Haukongo getting sent off for a second yellow card offence was apparent having got the first card of the game and for much of the second half will be an issue for Namibia to deal with.
Angola have showed to be effective as the front with combination of Freddy and Gelson culminating in the side taking the lead. Likewise, Mabululu at the from from the left flank. The centre field of the Angola was spot on with Freddy get the balls across to the front.
For Namibia, it was evident losing Shalilule and early substitution of Tijueza from the first half was costly further side against tge really sharp Angolan front and that also was evident in Mabululu's goal on the counter.
