Premier League: Tottenham Hold Off Everton's Late Comeback To Win
Tottenham held on to claim an important 2-1 victory against Everton to remain in the top-four of the EPL standings in the first period of the season.
Richarlison put the side ahead after darting into the box to tapped home Brennan Johnson's cross. Heung min Son followed with the second goal lashing a rebound shot saved into his path from Johnson's attempt.
After Everton's goal was ruled for a foul offence, Andre Gomez steered a delightful shot through the crowded box to beat Pickford to the goal. That was the only goal witnessed in the second half.
Spurs managed to keep the lead through to stoppage time as Everton came out in search for the equaliser that eluded them. Tottenham are now fourth in the standings with 36 points.
Quick Overview
Just as Tottenham needed to win the game, so was Everton to keep away from the relegation zone. Spurs eventually got through but it did not come easy by the closing stages of the game.
Calvert-Lewin should have led a comeback for Everton had his goal not been canceled for Gomez's foul on Emerson. More so, the added minutes saw Arnault Danjuma coming very close to leveling the scores but Spurs neatly made it through to have the victory.
