Premier League: Newcastle Well Outperform Man. United To Win By Slim Margin

 


Manchester United endured an exhausting 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James, Park as their race for the top four of the EPL suffered a setback. 

After a couple of attempts, efforts of the highly-energetic hosts finally paid off and secured the winning goal shorttly after halftime as Anthony Jordan side-footed home Kieran Trippier's cross. 

United later upped their game as Erik ten Hag introduced Rasmus Holjund and Anthony to replace both Anothny Martial and Marcus Rashford to bolster the attack but getting an equalizer yet eluded the side.

Newcastle had nearly got the lead in the first half from Kieria Trippier's free-kick that bounced off the crossbar. The loss made it United's third consecutive defeat to Newcastle in all competitions. 

Quick Overview

Spectacular first half for both sides until Newcastle began to gain control of the ball and United were left to hold on until halftime whistle. The break was no doubt a moment of relief for United that was under onslaught repeatedly. 

It was just a matter of time for Newcastle to take the lead which they did sooner into the second half. United had been kept in the backfoot for minutes in the build up to the opener before Trippier's cross found Jordan in the right position for the tap in.

The tide later changed sides in the last eight minutes with Sergio Regulion's shot incredibly blocked by Fabian Schlar followed by the canceling of Anthony's goal for Maguire's deflection while in offside. 

United were neatly outpace and overpowered by their hosts who earned a well-deserved victtory at home and moved up the table to fifth on 26 points.
