Premier League: Cole Palmer's Brace Set Chelsea Out To Narrowly Beat Luton
Chelsea narrowly made away with the maximum points in a 3-2 victory against Luton with Cole Palmer scoring two goals to keep the side on a safe path to victory.
Palmer kicked off the scoring with a tap in of a rebound shot from Nicolas Jackson's effort following a set piece, and Madueke doubled the lead rifling a left-foot shot past Thomas Kaminski from Palmer's through pass.
Palmer once again found the net for the third goal with a delightful finish of Jackson's pass amidst Luton's defense and rounded Kaminski before whipping the ball into the empty.
Luton later pulled one back as Barkley pounced a header from Alfie Doughty's cross past Petrovic and Elijah Adebayo doubled the goals tapping home a rebound save from Doughty's effort saved to his reach.
Though Chelsea won the game, they yet have a long way to reaching the top-five of the standings as they trail in 10th position with 28 points. Also Luton needed at least a draw from the match in their struggle to come out of the relegation zone.
Quick Overview
Competitive game from Luton with the view of catching Chelsea's defense unaware by keeping the ball deep into their box for the finish. The game plan paid off eventually but it was not enough to give them neither the victory nor a draw.
Palmer's goals were not short of classic display of brilliance until Luton found a lifeline from the late comeback. Doughty who assisted with both goals for Luton had had his goal ruled out by the VAR before the goals started coming.
Chelsea had to work harder though they had the lead. Luton resilience forced Chelsea to play deep, and with just a goal deficit, Luton had a match to draw and Chelsea had maximum points to defend.
