Premier League: Arsenal Regain Standings Summit From Brighton Defeat
Arsenal have regained the top spot of the EPL after defeating Brighton 2-0 at Emirates Stadium and moved atop of the standings with two points the clear nearest team, Liverpool.
Gabriel Jesus snapped the deadlock earlier after halftime from Bukayo Saka's corner headed into his path and while unmarked nodded the ball past Bart Verbruggen for the opener,
Getting the decider took time but the delivery was pleasant, as Eddie Nketiah's pass rightly located Kai Havertz, who unleashed a left-foot shot to beat on rushing Verbruggen.
The victory sent Arsenal back in the lead of the standings after losing the spot briefly to Liverpool following the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa last weekend.
Quick Overview
Great composure from Arsenal against a highly defensive side, Brighton that relied on the counter to cause a scare. There were multiple wasted chances from the hosts but taking the lead could not be relieving enough until Havertz put a seal on the victory with the winner.
The game did not go through without Brighton breaking through Arsenal's defensive wall with Pascal Gross catching the hosts off guard for a poke in of Mitoma's cross. The build up to the offensive was just right but the ball missed the goal by an inch. That would have leveled up the lead.
Mikel Arteta's decision to bring in fresh legs with Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard eventually got the job done for the side. With the frontline revamped, a combination of passes between Martin Odegaard and Nketiah set up Havertz one-on-one with Verbruggen for the penultimate. That was the crunch time for Arsenal with a delightful victory.
