Premier League: Nicolas Jackson Scores Hat-trick As Chelsea Beat 9-Man Tottenham
Chelsea claimed a controversial 4-1 victory in a London derby against 9-man Tottenham with Nicolas Jackson scoring his first hat-trick for his team.
The five-goal thriller game started off vibrantly with Tottenham taking the lead in the sixth minute as Dejan Kulusevski finished off Pape Sarr's pass facilitated by James Maddison. Chelsea responded from a penalty drawn by Romero which Cole Palmer scored for the equaliser. Romero was Red carded.
Spurs later went down to 9-man as Destiny Udogie was sent off and Chelsea capitalised on that to take the lead from Raheem Sterling leading a fast break which Jackson finished off.
Conor Callagher later slid another ball through to Jackson for third goal and Palmer assisted with the fourth as Jackson rounded Hugo Lloris began tapping home the winning goal for his hat-trick.
The loss was Tottenham's first of the season and are slid one place down the table to be second behind Manchester City who now lead the table with 27 points.
Quick Overview
A quality game smeared with many VAR decisions. That is the rule of the game and four goals were ruled out and one penalty awarded coupled with red carding of Cristian Romero.
Upholding Moises Caicedo's goal would have saved Romero since he had already committed an offence in the build up to the goal. Getting to check with VAR opened to the door to the tough decision even though Caicedo's goal was ruled out for Jackson's offside positioning.
Tottenham remained strong defensively even after losing Romero in the first half. But, it got worse off for them after Destiny Udogie was sent off for second yellow card offensive. Yet, Dier's finish of Bentancur Rodrigo's header pass from free-kick was classic despite playing 9-man at the time. It was ruled off for offside anyway.
Chelsea played really well and found Spurs' defense tough to crack until Udogie was sent off. Spurs bringing on Dier from first half after Romero was red carded worked out the trick. However, with Udogie out, the defense line became loose and Chelsea burrowed through easily with Jackson getting his first hat-trick for Chelsea.
