Premier League: Luton Earn First PL Win In Stunning Defeat Of C. Palace
Luton Town have earned their first victory of the season after defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 and consolidated on their position (17) just outside of the relegation zone.
After a goalless first half, Teden Mengi opened the scoring for Luton as a header pass following a corner landed on his foot and smashed the ball just right to beat Sam Johnstone with 18 minutes remaining. Palace's goal had just been canceled by the VAR before Mengi struck.
Michael Olise responded to give Palace the equaliser with an individual effort but that did not last as Luton regained the lead with a late strike from Jacob Brown, sliding to kick home Chiedozie Oghene's cross.
Luton have for the first time since 2005 defeated Palace in a Premier League game. In the same year, they defeated Palace at home by 2-1 to be the only newly-promoted team to win opening game of the season.
Quick Overview
An important victory for Luton which doubled up as their first Premier League game win of the season. It did not come easy and they had to hold on to the lead against a more experienced side like Palace.
Palace gave their best in the late stages to make up for Brown's winning goal, they came all out for the offensive and could not get any until stoppage time.
Oghene's effort was carefully time to find Brown just arriving at the right time to slide in his cross. The Nigerian international had found just enough space croas the ball through for Brown's tap in. However, that was a well-deserved victory for Luton.
