Premier League: Kai Havertz's Goal Lifts Arsenal Atop Table After Beating Brentford
Arsenal are the EPL table leaders after claiming the maximum points from 1-0 victory in a hard-fought game against Brentford and narrowly lead closest rivals, Manchester City (29pts) by just a point.
Gunners left it really late before taking the lead after Bukayo Saka's cross rightly located Kai Havertz for a header that beat Mark Flekken to the goal. Before then, Arsenal had barely got shots on target and had just intensified their attack.
Until the game, Brentford had only lost one of their previous four games; their last defeat was to Loverpool by 3-0. The victory restored Arsenal's league title hopes as race for the silverware heats up.
Quick Overview.
Slightly interesting game but of suspense over the high defensive nature of the game particularly from Brentford. It took nearly the stoppage time before Arsenal could crack the defensive, and with four added minutes, they were comfortable to hold on to the lead at least.
Arsenal should have taken the lead earlier but VAR found Martin Odegaard in offside position. Havertz eventually got the winner in for Arsenal and that came off Saka's deep and sublime cross that landed just right for a header.
Mikel Arteta subbing of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli for Eddie Nketiah and Havertz respectively paid off. Havertz rightly timed the arrival of ball to get a header through Flekken's legs.
It could not be more satisfactory for Arteta when the winning goal got in even being late into the game against resilient opponents that were in defensive mode through the game.
