Las Vegas Grand Prix: Charles Leclerc Takes Pole As Ferrari Dominate Race Over Red Bull
Charles Leclerc has for the five-time this season claimed pole position as he pipped his team-mate Carlos Sainz by 0.044s to finish quickest for Ferrari's dominant one-two finish in Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The race, however, should have, would have, could have gone the way of Sainz but the Spaniard driver was given 10-place grid penalty ahead of the qualifying session for exceeding car parts allowance following a mechanical fault. Anyhow, Carlos was able to improve impressively in the last session of Q3 even quicker than Max Verstappen, who finished in third.
Meanwhile, it is an uminpressive race for Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, who failed to make the qualifying session having finished 11th in Q2. McLaren also had a bad as both of the drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri failed to make it past Q1 and will start in P15 and P18 respectively.
While Leclerc will make his first P1 start in Las Vegas for the Ferrari, Sainz will start in P12 over the penalty given him and Verstappen will move up to P2. As a consequence, Hamilton will start in P10. Conversely, George Russell did not have the issues Hamilton dealt with and made front row finish in fourth, which meant he will start in P3 over Sainz's penalty.
"The car was not just working for me," said Hamilton who recalled making changes after practice three. "It's definitely difficult when you can't even get through Q2."
